What are you using to test the accuracy of your clicker wrench? I used to have a beam type wrench to check it against, but it was stolen (sounds like the subject of a country music song: Ohhh, someone stole my torque wrench..). Any contraptions out there that you've built? Like a lever arm attached to weights, etc.?
I'm guessing that the adjustment is made by turning the set screw on the the ratchet arm. Is that right?

Yes the adjustment is made at the bottom of the handle via the screw and lock nut. We use a digital torque gauge to set them up by. It's a real shocker to see how much they're off sometimes.

What I meant was there's a allen head setscrew in the middle of the wrench body that screws into the ratchet head arm inside the hollow wrench body. Looks like the other end of the setscrew pushes against other wall of the tube. It would alter the angle of the ratchet head and alter the point at which it clicks as far as i can tell.

How far to torque wrench is off, or how far the calibrator is off. ;-)
Make certain your source is calibrated occasionall as well.
In both the military and civilian jobs, we all push our calibration standards upward to be checked by a higher-level lab.

Gawd it would be nice to have a way to calibrate my torque wrenches without having to ship them off somewhere. If fish scales are fairly accurate it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to build your own test stand though it might get 'interresting' at higher torque loads as the arm got longer and longer

I'm not sure how he had the vise set up - I'd think you'd need an outer tube to grip and an inner shaft, and a couple of bearings. Basically a scale or balance, with the wrench forming the other "arm".

For home use, I'd think +/- 10% would probably be ok.
Most people don't pull the wrench correctly, anyway, screwing up the torque value. Or my favorite, "And a little extra for good meansure."

Usually there is a torque range instead of one specific value (not always though, IE IMG gaskets) so I normally set mine for the middle of the range. That way if its off a little (most likey) theres a good chance of being within range.
Anything under 20 ft lbs I use an inch lb wrench. More accurate at low values then a ft lb wrench.
Would like to get mine calibrated though.

I found one at my nearest discount tire and mine was dead on, just ask at a shop near you that uses them a lot, they'll have something that you can use to check it.
