Hi guys and gals,
I am still trying to fix a problem with my Raider with a 2.6l.
Whenever I go anywhere far enough for the engine to get hot and leave the truck sitting for maybe 10 minutes or so, when I come back out to go, it starts just fine, but when I get maybe a couple of hundred yards (just start getting on the gas) it tries to die and often succeeds. It then won't restart. I then typically have to wait over an hour before it will start again. If I can get outta traffic and rev it a few times in neutral, it SEEMS to avoid the stall.
Now that's it's hot out, the problem has gotten much worse.
Overall my gas mileage is pretty poor (10-15 at most).
Now my questions are: could the bowl vent valve be contributing to that sort of a problem or would it not start at all after sitting? Can the BVV be tested in any way?
I removed the charcoal canister and it really smelled of gas. Is that normal? I've considered just replacing it in case, but can't seem to find anyone that's got one. Anyone know what I should be looking for at like a NAPA or Checker or won't they carry it?
Finally, I noticed that after driving a bit there is seemingly considerable pressure in the gas tank (removing the cap results in a nice whoooosh). Is this normal or could it be a sign of something? Should I have a venting gas cap?
Any advice would be very much appreciated. I went looking at the Jeep Liberty today - love the SWB - but certainly don't want to give up on the Raider! Thanks!
