I could see that. Orange engine, purple tranny, green t-case. That is a colorful drivetrain. I like things a little out of the ordinary. If I go with those colors in the final, I'll definitely post pictures of it.

Nice idea and there are plenty of Spicer 18s around, cheap. Since I don't have a top or doors and mine could be jumped easily, I just move the twin stick in to neutral while I'm in a store. It would take a car jacker a half hour to figure it out.

What are the holes in the shift rails for?

They were there for the original single stick linkage. When I rebuilt the case, I didn't know what I had in mind for the twin stick set up, so I left them alone. If I had to tear the case down now for whatever reason I would weld up the slots and holes, turn it to size in the lathe and notch it in the mill. I did know I was going with twin stick so I removed the shift interlock pills so I can have all ranges now, including front high (front wheel drive Jeep). All I did was pull the plugs in the side of the aluminum housing, drop out the pills and replace the plugs with some freeze plugs from the parts store, 5/16 I think.

Burnt orange? If there is one color orange I HATE it's burnt orange. I actually knew a guy that went to Gross High School, and their colors were the most god awful combination of purple and orange imaginable. If I do go orange, I'll lean more towards a reddish orange. Whereas the purple I would most likely go very dark, and with an almost non-existant metallic.

I'm not sure of which slots you mentioned but the shift rail guides had slots for lubrication. Oil was actually supposed to flow or leak slightly around the shift rails on the old stuff. I wouldn't worry about those holes on the ends of the rails. The shifters as you have weren't much of a problem but the rails on the T-90 tranny (early CJs) are prone to heavier leakage in the rear (no seals). The tail shaft on the Spicer 18 was a leaker also.

I was just curious as to what they were for or originally used for.

Very nice looking setup! I couldn't care less about the color, green, pink, whatever. Myself, I like the bare metal/rusty/greasy look that the gods intended for drivetrains.
