1987 Raider ... Tail Lights, Stereo, Dash Lights, ... None work, ... ???

We have checked the fuses ... everything seems fine.

Is there anything we could be missing?

All input appreciated.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
We found a relay at the front by the driver's side headlight, ... is that the relay for the tail lights, ... cause one of the wires was so corroded that it just fell right off when we wiggled the relay, ... could that be the tail light problem, ... which was first incurred right after a 4X4 trip?

All help appreciated ...

That is the relay for the parking/head lights. A few people including myself have had problems with that, but it was just the headlights not working. I don't know if it would have anything to do with the interior lights though.

Dash lights are run through the dimmer below and left of the steering wheels.
Stereo and tail lights are on separate circuits.

Sounds like a general grounding failure or fusible link problem. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Have you consulted the service manual?

Body Damage is Cool
Start with your hazard light switch. If it's going bad, it will create all kinds of havoc. There's a small ball inside that can break away and not allow the switch to make full contact to one side or the other. If it's stuck in the middle, nothing else works.

There are 3 fusable links on the passenger side inner fender. One of those is probably open. I've had it happen.

First check #2 fuse. If ok, apply power to R/W wire at headlamp relay. If all lights work, problem is relay, power to relay or bad connection at relay.

OK ... figured this one out.

There is a relay inside the front drivers fender. We found a loose wire there so we took one from the parts truck and spiced it in, ... and wholla ... tail lights, dash lights, and stereo.

The part we used on this '87 was from an '89.

Thanks for all your help over the past winter, ... we finally have this absolutely mint 1987 Raider back on the road.

The only thing we need to find for this truck is a rear bumper, ... as we have currently mounted a 2X4 to the bumper mounts and it looks less than sexy.

Thanks again ...
