Getting the Wheeling Fever
I got in the truck today to head to the motorcycle shop. All 4 windows would not roll up. I got home and checked the fuses and the 20A circuit breaker for the power windows had blown.

I pulled out the cb, pushed the popup indicator back in, then stuck it back in the fuse block. I tried the windows again...nothing. No windows rolled up, no popup button popping out.

I let it sit for an hour while I had lunch. I just went out to try again and head to the store if necessary. I turned the ign to on and lo-behold, the windows rolled up just fine.

What would cause a surge to blow open the circuit breaker? The manual says to repair "the cause" then push the button back in the cb and reinstall it and it's good to go. I did not repair anything or get to finding "the cause" as the windows rolled on up when I put the keys in. Do I need to look over the wiring I can get to for shorts?

Edit: No, the window lock button was not engaged <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

If the motor is locked up or theres some force on it, it will draw more current than when it is unrestricted tripping the breaker. Maybe the window tracks were dirty or something? Just check if there's anything in the way that would prevent the windows from going up and down freely. Maybe it was something temporary, parked in the sun and the rubber got hot and expanded or something?

Hmm, that's a good thought. The weather has been at all extremes and in between lately. The truck gets parked inside all wet and doesn't completely dry. I often leave the windows down in the garage.

They might have dried and then stuck.

Ever have a car with manual windows and the linkage gets screwed up so you have to strong arm the thing back up? I had an old car once where you had to pull up on the glass while cranking. Maybe if the problem persists open up the inside door panel and look at the linkage, maybe clean it and regrease it or check for broken parts. If it doesn't repeat I bet it was just a freak thing though. There's a reason isuzu (and other companies) put a resetable breaker there versus a fuse.

Sounds like it could possibly be what I call a "nuisance trip" ... it happens from time to time with circuit breakers and fuses. They sometimes trip/blow for no apparent reason. If you have a circuit that draws heavy startup surges (like a motor) over time the metal of fuse elements will actually fatigue due to physical movement (see magnetostriction on wiki). Some C.B.'s act in a similar manner, but I'm not sure what type is used in that circuit. Many C.B.'s will begin to trip at lower currents as they age, I've replaced hundreds (not in cars though)...

not saying it's your problem, just a "possible" .

So possibly the circuit breaker is fatigued and might need replacing?

This particular cb plugs into the fuse box like a regular fuse. The difference is that it's shape is just a little plastic rectagular box with a red popup botton on the back.

Well anything is possible I guess, it could be getting "soft", but wait and see what happens... it might not ever trip again!

OR, you could have another problem, I'm just theorizing is all...
