GDay,

How much are the lockers and lower ring and pinions to be sent to Newcastle Australia post code 2318.

How have the pre production KIA vehicles stood up to the testing, any problems?

Cheers, Chris

It is bit complicated. The gears were made by a friend of me, and assempled by Michael. The problem is that this friend does not want to make more gears because it wa stoo hard for him. From the other side we have no any drawings because I could not imagine this fact. The samples do not exist any more and the real gears are in my transfer. So for the moment seems to be difficult to get any other set of gears.
You can easy get any time the lockers with the lower ring and pinions.

there is a gear cutter here in TX that will take the t-case apart, make duplicates of the gears and put it all back together for you. don't know how long it takes, but i have an extra t-case you could use in the meantime, if you're up for it. the only issue is still how to get the gearsets made inexpensively, yet still strong. hmmmmm.....

if you e-mailed it to rocksportgear, i haven't checked that e-mail in a little while, but i will later today, it's blocked at work....

as far as telling you more.... about which?

the gear cutter is somewhere in North Texas, the price going to be something like 800-1000 each set, when i checked 2-3 years ago, will be more now, if they are even still willing to do the job. i could put my extra t-case back together, send it to george and he could send me his with the low t-case gears and then i will send it to the gear cutter, but, of course, i'd have to have all gearsets prepaid, because there's no way in hell i could front the cash for that. it would come to 10 grand at the very, very least and could be as much as 20 with the price of steel and the high cost of custom machining and whatever sort of heat treating or cryo that might be necessary.

it's a long shot, but if there is already one set made, it makes getting duplicates made, that much easier.

i would like some specs on these gears, george, if you're willing.

You should speak with the gys who are getting billet gear sets made up for Samurais and Vitaras.

A 6.5:1 gearset, and that also corrects for 33" tires in high range, are just $499 a set. So finding the guys who are cutting them might be a cheaper route.

If you can find out if the high range could also be reduced in the set, that would solve the no taller R&P issue to boot.

Try Trail-Gear, Trail-Tough or Rocky-Road Outfitters.

oh, whoops, you're talking about the differential gears, i thought we were talking transfer case gears. nevermind. sorry about that. we should be able to get those here in the US, i'm gonna figure out some info.

yankee tim- already done around 2-3, maybe even 4 years ago. the route most of those guys take is up front out of pocket and i talked to a few of them and they said they STILL have gears left over after 9 years trying to sell them.
