Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
I just finished putting in a rebuilt 3.0 in my 88 4runner.I also put downey headders on it. Yesterday I started it up for the seconed time. i drove it about a mile (it was hella loud since I havent connected my headders up to the exhaust system yet)This moning I start it up and it was running poorly, it wouldnt stay at idle and had no power. now it hardly runs at all. my buddy thinks that one of the intake gaskets has a leak in it. Any ideas?

I, recently rebuilt my 3.slow and had a similar problem. The cause was a few of the grounds not being installed also check your vac hoses.

Also check that your intake tube is sealed from the VAFM to the TPS.

I doubt an intake manifold leak would cause a no run issue, but would cause poor running, unless its severe and allowing coolant in. As someone else said, check your plugs. One way to check for an intake leak (or vaccume) is to spray WD40 (carb clnr & starting fluid work too but less advisable) around the connections and look for an rpm change.

I know for sure that a 3.0 won't run especially if it gets enough air from the leak that the VAFM flapper won't move. IE you wont get any fuel into the engine without the flapper moving.

The poster mentioned his buddy thought it might be an intake gskt leak, I don't agree, with the info he's supplied.
If someone takes what you know for sure, and info from someone else, they might put 2&2 together and come up with a solution for their problem.
FWIW, I recall my 3.0 starting and stalling as soon as the keyswitch was released from the crank position without an afm signal/flapper door movement, likely gettin fuel from the cold start inj.
