about a month ago i replaced the crush sleve and seal on my rear 3rd, it was fine before except for leaking oil, and it was fine up untill a few days ago... now under torque the rear seems to have a hummmm/howel to it? if im coasting it goes away? The gears were set up properly and backlash and all was good when i put it back in

I know that when my rear diff bearing went out, it made a very loud and noticable howling noise, only under load.
Sounds like you have a bearing problem of some kind. Either bad, or loose, dry, etc. Did you replace all the bearings? If not, that's probably what it is.

I was dumb enough to pull my tranny and replace the input bearing thinking that was what the noise was . Swaped in some fresh 3rds and no more noise. Now that was stooopid!

thats about what i pulled...lol... I originally swapped out the 3rd because their was a noise comming from the rear end. Put the other 3rd in and noise was still their... it turned out to be the dam ujoint... so i put a new crush and seal in teh original and put it back in ... guess i should have went the extra step and done bearings at the same time ...DOHHH

well found the problem after pulling the 3rd.... I guess the mecanic forgot to torque the bearing cap bolts after adjusting the end caps.... All 4 bearing cap bolts had backed out and the gears were just floating around in their .just being held in place by the axles. Needless to say the teeth are half chipped off now making the gears usless and left a big ding in the housing.. Just wait till i talk to the mecanic the next time i go to work...
