Does this sound like a good deal or not?
"1989 Toyota Xtra cab pickup with ~142,000 miles. It is a 4x4 with the 3.0 V6 and a 5 speed manual.
The swap uses 44044 springs and a Sky Offroad spring hanger with OTT Industries Hi-steer and fits the 36ö tires with minimal rubbing. There are lots of good offroad parts
Check engine light is on, caused by a broken speedometer cable that has been repaired. Can still pass smog.

I did the axle swap using an 85 Toyota axle, it has diff armor, wheel spacers, 4.88 gears and an open differential.

Steel braided brakelines with shock hoops and Doetsch Tech shocks. The steering is Hi-steer from OTT Industries and has a billet pitman arm. It uses Rancho 44044 leaf springs in front and 4" springs with no blocks in the back to give a good amount of lift and flex.

It also has a 2" body lift, custom bumpers, rock sliders,cd player, and a Cobra CB. I have replaced the power steering pump and steering gear box, but one of the lines needs to be replaced to stop a small leak. The front axle could use new seals, a common problem with the Toy straight axles.

It also has an exhaust leak at the cat converter flange. Tires will need to be replaced soon. It will still pass smog"
It looks pretty good on walk around haven't driven yet. Seems decent deal to me for sas'd Toy w/ lift, but NO lockers, bummer.
Any input appreciated.

Thanks

Howdy, you buying this or selling it?

The 3.0 had a head gasket campaign; THAT is something you want to check out. Take the VIN to the dealer and see if the HG was done

more reading FWIW, the '89 has since been rescinded from the recall, so you'd be SOL if it failed. Again, doesn't hurt to ask the question.

Don't know if it's a 'good' deal or not----price???? Rustbucket? etc

Very high?
Yeah, it seemed high for 89 compared to some ebays, KBB private party is $3850 for good, $4270 excellent, etc., but for mileage and having sas done I haven't seen too many in this area, have seen 4runners similar for 6k or so.

That's high for even up here SAS'd, and this is Yota country. The worst part about it is not knowing what kind of shape that 3.0 is in---a rebuild is around $3K or so, and that's with YOU jumping the block out.

Get a smog inspection, compression test AND a leakdown done on it and offer him $4K if it's within spec AND passes.

Also, why pay this party for work that YOU have already done to the truck?

You see 'em up for sale for $6K, but I would question what the owners get in their pocket once the keys and title are handed over.....

Runner in SEA for sale if we can get the guy to post his price in his post.

That isn't high at all here in CA, I jave seen stock X-cabs listed for that amount. As a rule here in CA, if the Toyota is clean you can easilly list it for $1000-1500 over KBB. With the SAS, Hi-steer, gear change, bumpers, sliders it is worth the price, since this stuff would run you about another $5-7k. However with the check engine light on, and the exhaust leak, I wouldn't pay the $5500, I would offer around $4k, since the rig isn't streetable at this time, no responsible smog shop will pass it with the check engine light on, or the exhaust leak.

If the price is at or near your budget amount, I would also recommend having a dealer tech or Toyota mechanic check out the engine, you don't want to have to spend the $5k now and an additional $1500-2000 in unexpected engine repairs.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

It's not high at all here either, especially with the swap, if done correctly and cleanly. Makes a dandy candidate for a 3.4 swap, here's hoping you have a clean piston top or two... *
