Not a bad idea. Personally, I'd have stopped at the plywood door/ box assembly. I love how neatly everything is laid out, but if you need to carry something else, or find a couple of missing tools, it's re-organizing time.

Since mine is bobbed and doesn't have a 'gate, I stuff the little nooks and crannies in the rear fenders and next to the rear seats (no interior panels, either) full of $10 canvas tool bags from Sears or home depot. One for pliers, impact gun, etc... another for all the sockets and ratchets, etc. They didn't rattle or fall out during any of my rollovers, and can be packed to the gills and then wadded up and stuffed into a tight space, etc. As you mentioned, there is NO worse setup for the trail than a metal toolbox. Loud, heavy, and bulky.
