Honestly...You dont need Lloyed or Offroader(onroader ) to go wheeling. Start your own trips! People like to act like they have "the keys" to a certain spot, and it might be helpful to go with experienced wheelers. But Who needs them?? Not me. I go all the time alone. Just be more careful. A wench would be nice, then she could dig us out.
Point; Its public land. Start a new group, and call it the "sierra challenger". PM me I'll go! REALLY.
Good points. There was another post on this forum from a group that just ran the Con. Certainly the trails we are doing are easier with an experienced guide. But the high Sierras trails are so brutal in general a group makes it easier to pass. I do alot of solo wheeling, but it makes me extremely nervous in the Sierras.
It also depends on your equipment and experience. For most "near stock" rigs these trails push the limits. For some like myself, Carlos and Kirk, and others the rigs are built enough to take some of the overwhelming challenge of solo away.
As much as I hate it I will be alone for the first half, but taking alot of precautions, easy lines and will not likely get stuck in my well built rig.
Bottom line is I have NEVER canceled a Sierra Challenge, and have made it one way or another. If you plan to make an agressive, week+ long trip, alot of checking in is warranted and feed back when requested. Planning is usually continous in the last few months. Granted, the dates rarely move so much .And if you dont like a change, such as switching Northern to Southern Sierras, simply chime in at the appropriate time. It is not just my vacation, it is yours as well.
