Ok I got a Holley 390 4bbl and a new Offenhauser single plane intake for my '80 CJ5 w/ '76 258. Well it pretty clear that I have to do something because the carb just bearly hits the brake booster. Now I have two options here loose the power brakes all together and go to manual or modify the bracket and push rod to shorten the whole thing about an inch or so to make clearence for the carb. So what I getting at is has anyone done this before or know of a place I can get good info on this I really don't want to mess this up.

I think I have heard of guys grinding on the manifold to make it clear. Have you examined the possibility of doing something like that?

You mean grinding the seating surface??? Not to sure if I like that idea, sounds like problems just waiting to happen.
Any other options??

Oh, I have heard about milling down the seating surface as well, but anyway its not the intake hitting the master cylinder its the upper corner of the carb where the diapham housing for the vaccum secondaries, is hitting the brake booster. Thats where the problem is, so I am looking at converting to manual brakes or modify the booster set up, but I am open to ideas. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Do you think you could get the linkage to work if you turned the carb backwards?
