I took my 89 22RE to the stealership for a steering recall and had them clean the throttle plate as well. Since the rebuild it had been idling high and I suspected that I'd wiped some of the oil gunk in there. The reason I'd had them do it is I'd heard that you need to remove (and then readjust) the TPS and I didn't want to do that. Well, I started having an occasional hesitation at part throttle afterward. Also, their note said they adjusted the idle apeed and TPS as well. I thought it was bad gas, but it started getting worse. Even with a new tank of gas it got worse and now I'm having trouble starting it. It bucks severely at part/full throttle and makes a horrible engine knocking sound audible with the windows down. I've never had a problem with it starting...even after my rebuild, but I now do. Its extra on the hot here (don't know if that has anything to do with it) and I could not get it started at all last night. It had just started prior to that to move it into the garage and then drive to a buddy's place. Anyone know if this sounds like a TPS problem? What if the stealership cleaned the throttle body with the TPS still on? Could that ruin it and this is just it being on its way out? I have an appointment there Monday and I'm wondering what kind of recourse I might have. Thanks in advance.
