Just a quick Q
I filled up on petrol last night and when I got to work this morning I noticed a fuel smell, so I checked out the tank and found a little bit of seepage coming from the filler pipe attachment point at the tank. Could this leakage be just because the tank is full (normal) or am I looking at a bigger problem with rust on the tank around the filler pipe? The tank is covered with dirt now but I will check into it further by cleaning the area with a wire brush and looking with a flash light.

It's quite possible it's leaking due to rust, I had that problem on my Maxima. Could also be a loose hose clamp.

I had to replace the fuel pump bracket. The 3 lines coming out of it were rusted through. Had to get it at the dealership, think it was about $130. It was easier to raise the bed rather than drop the tank. I took the bolts loose and jacked it up about a foot and put some blocks under to hold it up.

I had to replace the fuel pump bracket. The 3 lines coming out of it were rusted through. That also is a common problem, but he's talking about the filler neck. And raising the bed is easier (usually) than dropping the tank, especially if it's full.

about having to replace a leaking fuel sending unit.....screw that man way too expensive....you can drill out the old pipes and either weld/braze in new fuel lines as long as you make the rights bends in the new pipes.....just make sure to test it with pressure before reinstalling it to make sure you didn't burn any holes into the new pipes.

This happened to my lines after I took the bed off a couple times. I hate to admit it, but I was too cheap to pay the $tealer the above mentioned price. I went to Farm and Fleet and bought some hose and hose clamps and fixed the leak with them.
I initially meant it as a temp fix until I found a cheaper source for the lines, but time has gotten away from me. I think that's been almost two years ago. Yes, I should replace it.....

so I checked out the tank and found a little bit of seepage coming from the filler pipe attachment point at the tank. Could this leakage be just because the tank is full (normal) or am I looking at a bigger problem with rust on the tank around the filler pipe? It shouldn't leak at that point, even with a full tank. While it might be a rust problem, I'd be inclined to check the clamp on that filler hose first. Of course if you need to disconnect that hose to check further, be sure to get rid of any dirt in the area first. An open fuel tank filler seems to have a magnetic attraction to any debris within 3' of it Dave

Yup, rust is your enemy when it comes to fuel tanks. Find the source of the leak. It is likely coming from the sending unit on top of the tank. If it is you WILL snap bolts off from the skid plate and tank trying to drop the tank to replace the sending unit no matter how much you spray them (even with Silikroil). EFI is a biatch because its a high pressure system and when you have a leak you have a geyser!I never tried raising the bed to remedy the problem. Took it to the stealership and said fixit. Took two fire extinguishers for that ride since I had gas spraying everywhere! For leaks in the tank itself, JB Weld works wonders!

Yeah Boys sorry to confuse you, but I meant that the problem was at the filler, and not the sending unit (replaced it before, yep its a bugger just for that little pipe on top rusting out!) SMEAR THE SENDER TOP WITH A FAT PAW A GREESE!!!
Anyway I took off the filler hoses and found that rust had gotten under the rubber hoses. Cleaned them by scraping with a screwdriver and then wire brushing, thank god I have a BL. then I smeared some grease on the tank and reinstalled the hoses. It was a bit of a PITA to stretch the hoses back on and tighten the clamp at the same time! Hopefully I got it on far enough to make a good seal. But I'll see when I fill up the tank next!
Good show ACES_HI Thanks for the help!!
