Yeah Boys sorry to confuse you, but I meant that the problem was at the filler, and not the sending unit (replaced it before, yep its a bugger just for that little pipe on top rusting out!) SMEAR THE SENDER TOP WITH A FAT PAW A GREESE!!!

Anyway I took off the filler hoses and found that rust had gotten under the rubber hoses. Cleaned them by scraping with a screwdriver and then wire brushing, thank god I have a BL. then I smeared some grease on the tank and reinstalled the hoses. It was a bit of a PITA to stretch the hoses back on and tighten the clamp at the same time! Hopefully I got it on far enough to make a good seal. But I'll see when I fill up the tank next!
