After pulling gas tank and reinstalling I have no power hitting the pump. Chilton manual devoid of pump wiring diagram. Clues, hints, wiring diagram?

Do a search on "russian site", using the quotes, and you should find the url where you can download the 89 "official" shop manual. Get back to us if you can't find it.

Meanwhile, there will only be power to the pump if one of the following conditions are met. In ign run position, there will be power to the pump for about a second when you first turn the key, unless the ecu sees engine rpm. In run, the ecu controls the fuel pump, and kills it if the engine quits. In start, the fuel pump should see constant power. Try disconnecting the starter small solenoid wire from the ign to kill starter rotation, and have an assistant turn the key to start while you test the fuel pump voltage input to ground (and make sure of the ground from a known good 12v+ source). If you have no voltage, either the ecu is bad, or the control relay is bad, or there's no power to the control relay. If the ecu is dead, you won't have spark while cranking, either. You may or may not have spark with a bad control relay, depending on what circuits died in the dual relays in the control relay unit.

Thanks for the help. It was a simple wiring short but your info gave me the confidence to start exploring which led to the solution. I think I have the manual now too though I did not have the patience to wait through opening a big zip file ( have it stored for the next job). I was in a hurry and found a friend with a full access link to AllData. He was able to pull the wiring diagram for me though I am sure the "russian" connection has it too. I am back on the road and really appreciate the help. Great forum.

I just fix it, the kid drives.
