I have used search feature thank you, I have 95 rodeo ticking like hell and wish to junk engine. What swap options are out there...Like the 3.4 swap for 1st gen troopers so forth....thanx for the replys oh yea its a 5spd

There are a few reasons that these engines tick. Usually, it is not a sign of impending demise.

#1 is the timing tensioner. Many a mechanic would diagnose a rod bearing for the sound, but it is the tensioner.

#2 if it is just a lighter tick, it is probably the way the oil flows through the upper end of the valve train. Common, no real damage, but there are several methods of dealing with or treating it.

Either #1 or #2 can be found by searching. It may save you the headache (and cost) of an engine swap.

I have used search feature as stated, the timing belt tensioner has been replaced along with belt. This truck has over 275k on the clock, and I'm looking for swap idea's. The ticking has been diagnosed but I do not wish to repair this engine. I haven't seen much talk of a rodeo engine swap. The reason for the post thnx, any idea's??????

The reason there is no talk is because there is no easy swap out there (i.e. 2.8/3.1-->3.4). I believe you might get one of the versions of the Caddy northstar to bolt up to your tranny, but...you will need all that comes along with it. Engine mounts, cooling, computer, plumbing ect.

If you are bent on not going with another 3.2 or fixing yours, you would be better off swapping the entire drivetrain. If you go that route, all options are open. Pick an engine you like or are framilar with and pick a tranny/x-fer with a passenger side drop. Make the mounts, plumb the works and call it good.

A 3.4 would be a waste of time.

Thank you for the replys, I am not considering the 3.4, just using its ease as a reference. I would consider the cadillac northstar. Where is the information on the tranny bolt up, and expected life span? Is there a diesel alternative?....thnx

You are on your own for almost anything you choose. There are no "alternatives" or other "options." You are breaking ground with whatever you choose.

There is limited talk about the Caddy motors. Search here, search Planet Isuzoo, search the Internet. You might find some references, but it has been done only a couple of times, that I know of. At least once, but less than 5 times, IIRC. My memory is not the end all answer, but I recall very little "How To" in the collective memory/intelligence of the Isuzu internet community.

Outside of that, anything you choose is totally custom. Ground up, like any other full engine/tranny swap. You can pull information from anywhere that has engine swap experience, but in the end, you will have to bolt it in, fab up what is needed and work out the bugs unique to your vehicle.

I wish you luck, but the road you desire is not an "easy" one.
