I read that it will destroy the synchros. I dont know. I want to know for sure because my Montero, sometimes when I start it, the front wheel lights are blinking. Like I accidentally bumped the t- shifter. I dont want to accidentally bump it while the hubs are unlocked if it will kill the t-case. I do want to install manuals because I think it will be better on gas driving around town and on the highway.

The indicator lights on my Monty have been burned out for a few years now, but they always blinked when I first started it. The wife's '95 still do.

Is it just the lights blinking, or does it actually engage the viscous 4x4??. If it is just the lights blinking for no reason then cool. However one day the damn lights were blinking for miles.

If its engaging you should 'feel' it. If its engaged without the hubs locked you will notice an extreme lack of power - as the center diff splits it between front and rear.
If they're just blinking you might have a vaccuum problem. Vaccuum keeps it disengaged.
I think you're right though - spinning the front diff without a load on it doesn't seem like a good idea.

The broken down jeep was in a very tough spot on the trail. It was on some rocks on a boulder climb with a sharp turn. Somehow they were able to move it out of the way so you could just squeeze by. The jeep had been there for sometime that day. The owners were not around. We first stoped thinking the owner was just scouting the rock climb ahead then noticed that it was briken down. While we were at the spot figuring out how to go aroung the jeep, another jeep showed up. They seemed surprise to see us there. They were acting really weird and told us that the jeep was there for sometime now. How they knew that I don't know. They asked us for grease and then made a u turn on the rocks and left. They just came down a technical rock climb and now they are just making a u turn and leaving???? The jeep they were in was newer and did not have a winch. I think if those boys had the chance something was going to be missing from that broken down jeep. We ran into the the suspicious characters later on that day on the trail. They were back in tow with their other jeep budies, about 5 of them. These guys were just plain rude and not concerned with anyone else out on the trails. We actually stopped under some trees to take a break and they came buy driving real fast and threw dust all over us. Peole please slow down or pull over when passing vehicles, hikers, bicycles, and or dirt bikes. It's the right thing to do, plus you might just create a trend. These are the same guys that throw their trash out on the trail. OK so you did not see them steal the winch... you just assume they were up to no good.

It was purely speculation on our part....It just seemed suspicious that This lone jeep broke off from his group to come back the opposite side of the mountain to the spot of the broke down jeep which was abandoned. They looked surprised to see us when they came around the corner and were acting a little funny. After asking if we had grease and telling us that the broken jeep "had been there for a while", they turned around and went back the way they came. Just seemed a little weird. The Spot where the broken jeep was at would of made towing it out nearly impossible, especially with the wheel falling out. I can only assume the owner was somwhere trying to get A new axle to fix on the trail and drive the Jeep out.
Who knows I could be totally off but something was telling me I wasnt..

here's what I have for day 2.... ![[Linked Image]](http://homepage.mac.com/zone1wst/.Pictures/wheelin/bb8.jpg) This cruiser was spotted on the trail near the uphill entrance to Dishpan..not sure if he made it all the way through or not he was pretty nervous and and said he had to turn around on john bull the day before..he had no problems climbing this part though and was looking good with the 33" Tires. ![[Linked Image]](http://homepage.mac.com/zone1wst/.Pictures/wheelin/bb9.jpg) The kids had fun swimming in the pools at Dishpan Springs before the difficult trip back up the Trail. ![[Linked Image]](http://homepage.mac.com/zone1wst/.Pictures/wheelin/bb10.jpg) more swiming action ![[Linked Image]](http://homepage.mac.com/zone1wst/.Pictures/wheelin/bb11.jpg) Motorcycle crashes into pathfinder driving down Dishpan. The Pathy was stopped to allow cycle to pass but he still crashed into him. The Pathy was going back down to help stap his buddy who had broken a tortion bar mount on another pathy. He was locked fron and rear and was quite impressive. .I had my own run in with a Motorcycle the day before..lets just say I'm glad for the ARB bullbar and the motorcycle not so glad.. ![[Linked Image]](http://homepage.mac.com/zone1wst/.Pictures/wheelin/bb12.jpg) me Spotting Pedro up the hill in the previous pic..I think my daughter has a future in photagraphy.. ![[Linked Image]](http://homepage.mac.com/zone1wst/.Pictures/wheelin/bb13.jpg) Pedro coming up the same obstacle..hard to see from the photos but its a deep rutted notch on the granite with a tight S curve very difficult to negotiate. ![[Linked Image]](http://homepage.mac.com/zone1wst/.Pictures/wheelin/bb14.jpg) anther shot Pedro almost over it. I think Pedro has some more good shots of this trail...short but challenging especially going up hill from the springs to Crab Flats.
