Nice work to be sure but I just don't get it I reckon. To me they don't look very good on the Jeep, and don't offer much protection. I assume protection is the main reason to want doors off road. But people are always putting stuff on their Jeeps that I don't care for. That's cool . Different strokes etc.

Different strokes for different folks, nothing wrong with that. The reasoning, not that I was really thinking much about it as I made them, was here Utah, where you have 100+ weather the month of July and half of August, everybody goes doorless. They go doorless as well any time in Moab/ That being said;
1. The first thing that general takes a hit down there are your doors. From the oscilation back and forth crawling the slickrock. There are some real narrow places.
2. I have full OEM doors and really don't care to ding them, plus the fact that the tamarack here can really scratch the crap out of your rig.
3. Also around here you get more flops then roll overs. Those tube doors will keep my legs in the vehicle.
4. It gives me a place to rest my arm
5. I'm 6-3 210 so more shoulder room the better.
6. Why not just buy soft or hard half doors??? Because I can build tube doors cheaper and soft doors will get shreaded by the tamarack.
7. Then there is always the creativity factor that I just flatout like seeing what I can build which I think is why I built them in the first place but really can't remember to be honest at this point.

The funny think is, not that I had or have any intention on building them for sale, the first day within 3 hours of me posting this on a Utah site I had 7 orders. Still not going to build them though.

Sunder - you got any pictures of those latches? It looks like apparently the one I chose needs a little more R & D.

I must add here that if you run those doors on one of our Texas ranches you will soon be in town looking for a doctor to pull all the thorns out of your hide! When you recover you will be putting the original doors back on there.

Most everything down here has a thorn on it! Some of the cactus have long stems and try to jump into your open window. Running around with no doors is scary to say the least. They look real good and prolly work fine where you run them. But I find myself even rolling the windows up at times to keep thorns out of my cab.

Zubi, I personally think those safety bars look great on your black Rubicon. The fact that you made them yourself, makes it that much better!
You listed all the right reasons why these safety bars are a plus when rockcrawling here in Colorado and Utah. Perhaps, it's all about different mods for different four wheeling applications / venues. However, one would think that safari doors / safety bars would be desireable when wheeling in the bayou to keep the 'gators out of the tub?

Zubi, I'll try and get a picture of the post today if I'm not too busy.

OK, i get it now. My only experiences wheeling in Texas involved yuca plants and barren desert such as Waco Tanks area, failry close to El Paso.

Thanks, I forgot the biggest one though. It allows you to check on your front left corner tire placement. A TJ has got to be the worst vehicle that I have every owned for being able to determine where that corner is.
4 wheeling w/Gators............Now that brings a whole new meaning to the phrase Extreme Wheeling!

Fred, I usually take the boat IN the bayou. There's plenty around but I,ve yet to meet a gator in the Jeep.

Zubicon, they're great, really, just not something that appeals to me.

I was thinking about that, too! That's why I prefer to have the softtop down whenever possible when I'm four wheeling (at least when I use to go four wheeling; SuperDawg is now doing major surgery to the '94 Wrangler's fried electric system. Finally, I got the rig towed to Josh's last week.)

I spent several months in Naples and Marcos Island, Florida Area in another lifetime; I always picture your area being similar swampy four wheeling conditions?

I'm seriously considering installing a 'roo guard to protect the 05 Jeep from all the deer and elk wandering on to the highway at night! I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it does seem that you can't travel more than a mile without having to slow for these clumsy asphalt funambulists!
