We can send you the Factory parts program called CAPS. You plug in your VIN and can look up the drawings and parts numbers for the whole truck. You can then buy them directly at mitsubishiparts.net or your local dealer.

That's a crazy amount of money for a old truck. Take it to Midas or some chain store and have them do the brakes for a few hundred.

My truck has 235,000 miles on it now. half the stuff he mentioned probably doesn't need done and the other half you should be able to do with minimal skill. The only shop work my truck has seen is I had the trans serviced this winter. That was cause I had a sensor light on for over a year. I got the sensor from the dealer and gave it to the tranny guy. Do a little shade tree stuff-get a service manual like a chilton or haynes. and go bit by bit.

Is this a joke?

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I'm curious- Has anyone replaced the engine mounts? I've heard of the tranny mount thing going, but this shop said the engine mounts??? My truck has 33x10.5x15's other than that it is basically stock and my truck runs and idles smooth. I can go smooth even at over 90mph---with flat highway and a tail wind .

Wheel bearings are so easy to do it would be insane to pay that much. There has to be a reasonable limit to "quality" work considering the outrageous prices there.

200K on my truck, engine mounts are toast, both of them. I have seen a few mounts bad on older monteros.

Yes, I've replaced my engine mounts. They don't last forever... are difficult to see the problem.... and there are probably many folks driving around with cracked ones.

The engine that Bob Wilson (87_montero) brought to me also had cracked mounts. They usually separate in the joint between the steel pad and the rubber, although some split the rubber pad.

IMO, any 15 year old 3.0L with over 125K miles - and most particularly one without heat shields on the mounts and/or exhaust manifolds - is a candidate for new mounts because they are fairly close to the exhaust manifolds.... heat is the worst thing for the rubber and/or the glue.

Ok so I agree 100% that most of the work does not need to be done. Might be nice, would make the truck drive and ride great.

Given that everyone says this stuff is all easy to take on, thatÆs my plan, as I am ok with a wrench. It would great for me to get some skills at this type of work and so I would like to ask if anyone local, SF Bay Area, could supervise maybe help out a bit as well. I buy beer gas etc.

Every time I see stories like this I'm glad I learned some mechanical skills. For the price of your valve cover gaskets I did water pump, timing belt, VC gaskets, two accessory belts, cam cap seals, valve seals, fan clutch, thermostat, plus bought a couple of tools. I'd be signing up at the local community college for night programs. I think this mechanic really wanted to be a doctor.

All that work may very well be required, but HOLY COW!!! Those guys must be charging you those rates to support their meth habit! I was going down that list thinking this must be a joke. Every last thing on that list is WAY WAY WAY overpriced.

If you're okay with a wrench, do it all yourself and you'll save yourself an -load of money.
