A lot of Gen II's Came with KYB's from the factory. The 3 way adjustables on the SR are KYB and I beilieve the ones we took off Pedros 95 LS were non adjustable KYB's as well. We put a set of the KYB Monomax's on his and they have proven good so far.

Well a look at my FSM shows two options for shocks.
1. Standard - Hydraulic, cylindrical, double-acting
2. Optional -Hydraulic, cylindical, double-acting with low pressure nitrogen gas. Then it lists Hard, Medium, and Soft specifications.

There's no way it seems to tell what's on there now from the VIN # or chassis #'s. I think there was an electric suspension adjust option on my year? I did not have that. How do you adjust the 3 way shocks, especially the rears?

With a switch mounted on the center console. Adjustable shocks were an option starting in 92 in the US model Sr's.

Anyone know if these (KYBs) are on sale anywhere? I'm geting some in the next two weeks and I've been looking around, prices seem to be about the same from most places. Any ideas?

Yea Justice I know, I thought there is a KYB gas adjust shock available for my truck even though I do not have a switch. I thought maybe the shocks have a manual adjustment on them? It would be nice to have the option.

Tirerack.com and SummitRacing.com both carry them. I bought mine from Tirerack for about 145 for all 4. Ohyea I had to compress my fronts, they came without straps and the only way I managed that was floorjack and bumper with shock in the middle. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
How do the KYB Gas Adjust compare to the KYB Monomax? Is the difference worth the Monomax's higher cost or are they just apples-to-oranges different?

From what I heard the Rancho shocks for the Montero suck. Like Justice stated, even Mitsubishi put KYB's on their Monteros. I just upgraded to the KYB Monomax. It's their Heavyduty shock in their line. Highly recomended and worth the extra couple of bucks for the heavyduty shocks. I bought the set of 4 on E-bay for a good deal and Justice and I installed them in. Installation was pretty easy. The hardest part is compresing the shock down so that it can fit in the mount. You have to hurry and position the shock in place before it expands back out.

The rear, I just bolt the top on and use the stock bottle jack to lift the bottom of the shock and slide it in. Very easy. The front, I compress by hand and insert before it expands.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.
