If there is enough of the axle sticking out of the Birfield put it in a vise and hit the bell of the Birfield with a hammer, it should pop out. If there is not enough sticking out, weld a piece of rod, old bolt on to it. I use a brass hammer and hit it real good, if you do not have a heavy brass hammer use a big brass drift and a BFH. Most of the time the clip will break, so be prepared to buy new ones.Do not hit the bell in just one spot, alternate from side to side. After you get it out, take the Birfield apart, chean it up and check the bell and cage for cracks. It show how to take the Birfield apart on this link:
