Getting the Wheeling Fever
i've got a torn boot on my cv shaft and was planning on replaceing the whole thing. i figure after 215k she deserves new ones. anyhow whose done it how tuff is it?
also i found this site http://www.off-road.com/toyota/cheaptricks/quickcv/ which talks about pressing out the studs and replacing them with bolts. another thread that i found said press out at least 2. can i remove all the studs and replace them with bolts and nuts?
do i need to loctite them or are lock washers enough. from what i have read with this mod it is a poc to replace the shaft. anyone know?

i pressed out my studs and ground down teh splines, so they work like bolts now. cheaper than buying new ones. i see no reason to buy a new CV shaft. buy the kit and replace the boots. if you have manual hubs, the CV's see even less wear.

ground down the splines? not sure what you are speaking of. got any pics or a link? i was going to just do the boots but i can pick up the shaft for $65 and mine currently will pop occasionally. going to add manuals when i do the rest.
thanks for the info.

when you drive out the studs, you will see that they have splines near the base. that is what holds them in place. make sure to leave a nut on and smack the nut to drive them out. now (with the nut on) place the nut end in a vice so the bolt can spin. put a cutoff wheel on a grinder and carefully grind off the splines until teh bolt will just barely go back into the hole all the way. now you turned your press-in studs into bolts and kept it all OEM.

i understand totaly, . was wondering if the spines were somewhere else. weren't you doing a sas on you t100? shackles up front right? finished yet? how has it worked out for you? i've been reading here and there and thinking sas is the way to go. i thought about the total chaos long arm or maybe the downey, but it seems to me the sas is goning to be chaeper and give you a more capable truck. $700 for axles alone is alot of $$$$
thanks again

$700, who would pay that much???

With a little patience you could have Bobby Long make some.
