Body Damage is Cool
My engine still stumbles when I go over certain bumps (not all bumps) or do steep climbs. Sometimes the stumbling is just plain random. The ôCruise Control Setö lights always illuminates for a few seconds as it stumbles. ItÆs OK to drive, mostly annoying. HereÆs what IÆve done already, based on your advice:
-Changed fuel filter
-Reset computer (disconnected battery 15 minutes)
-Cleaned MAF senor in air cleaner
-Checked plugs (still have 10K left on them)
-Visual inspection of wires for anything loose
-Checked for codes û none indicated

The only other change IÆve done is that I had a new CD installed last month. But, I thought they just plugged into the OEM harness. Could this be an issue?

I just thought I would try one more time on the board before bringing it to the dealer. Without a code, IÆm not sure what they can do.

Thanks,
Pete

Whenever weird stuff like that happens, I suspect a bad ground somewhere...wish I could tell you where.

That is exactly the same problem I had (stumbling under load), caused by a glaze on the cap/wire connection. Fixed by a new cap, rotor, and wires.

However, I do not know if the 01 still had a cap and rotor. I suspect not. You might try a little sandpaper on the wire/coil connection.

You can also see some of the other fixes people gave me for the stumbled under load problem at that link. You did a great job of listing what you tried, if something new was the fix, please let me know so I can add it to the list!

You did not happen to install one of those LED replacement light bulbs anywhere? They might cause lots of problems, stumbling, flickering lights...

DonÆt know exactly, but one time for no reason I was getting weird electrical problems. My cruise control was coming on without the input, when I manually set the cruise on and turn the lights on, cruise control would go off. Riding over rough terrain all my dash light would flicker; sometimes engine would lose power and then get back to life. I could not figure out what was wrong. Dropped the truck to the dealer and they had it for almost a week trying to diagnose the problem. Final answer I got was that they were able to duplicate the problem, but canÆt find anything wrong with the truck. Suggestion was to begin replacing parts starting with Cruise control module. Since it did not affect the truck that bad, I decided go live with it. Then I decided to remove all electrical mods. After going back to standard bulbs the problem wend away.
I really donÆt know why LED would cause such issues, but because they have small electrical circuit it seems that possible residual current in the circuit itself was feeding back to the ECU or maybe smaller than normal load caused problems. Again this is just a speculation, but I had really weird problems when they were installed.

switch back to normal lights to take the LED's out of the equation.

No replacement LED bulbs, but I had a new Alpine CD deck installed about the same time the problem started. If a LED bulb could cause a problem, maybe a CD deck could?

Thanks for the help. Wayne, thanks for your post. I read through it last week and checked all the issues (no rotor or dist. in the '01 - all electronic).

you've said this twice now, including in your original post.
so. . .what happened when you disconnected it?

[[[Sfinx thanks for the explanation. ]]]

We'll find out soon. It just dawned on me today that it could actually be the problem. Hope to get to it tomorrow.
