So I finally got my 3.0 back together with e/b built o/s valve heads, modded the crossover per my previous post, and got all the hoses back in the right spot and dialed in the ignition, and walla it runs. The first test drive or too it felt fine other than an exhaust leak where my crossover eliminator ties into the downpipe, too be fixed.

Trouble is, I drove to work yesterday ~15 mile 1/2 hour commute, first time the engine really warmed up since the rebuild. Now I notice at idle it misses a bit and kinda stutters until it gets a bit of gas. I'm befuddled as to what is causing this.

I did have an engine light that would intermittently come on, and after checking the two 02 sensors, the rear one was out of range and replaced, and now no check engine light.

Any suggestions greatly appeciated. I did replace the rotor and cap before the rebuild, and put in new plugs. The oil and coolant looks fine.

Re- check your vacume hoses, you may have a small leak somewhere. Another thing is it might be yor TPS. The one on my 4runner went bad after a rebuild. I also had a bad one on my chevy and it would cause the idle to surge.

I had to disconnect the EGR to get the stutter out of mine. I just haven't managed to get around to reducing the EGR inlet pipe and hooking it back up. You may want to try pulling the hoses off the EGR and plugging them to see if that's the direction you need to go.

Thanks for the tips. I didn't even take the throttle body off of the intake manifold, so am hoping the TPS is still good. The rpm doesn't surge at all. It's just I get some missing and hesitation at idle and the throttle barely cracked. Once the rpm come up a bit, or I give it more gas, it seems fine.

I need to get it smogged, so don't want to defeat anything that may prevent that. #1 one thing is to find the leak(s) in the exhaust and weld it up.

sounds like an air leak on the intake side. Remove the plastic between the TPS and the MAS and Ill bet you find a crack, just like I found one on mine. But those pieces arent cheap... $95 to replace but I found no way to reliably fix.
