Warped exhaust manifold (360) #746831 08/23/06 11:31 PM

I did a search and couldn't find anything on this. But, are there any easy fixes for this problem? That is short of having it resurfaced, i.e. two gaskets.. super glue whatever? This leak is driving me crazy.
Thanks

I guess it is possible but I have never had a cast exhaust manifold warp. Make sure it is torqued to a NEW gasket real good. If you do get it out straight edge it to make sure it IS warped. And NO! 2 gaskets will only leak quicker.

No easy fix. Re-surface or replace.

Yep, it had new gaskets. It's out and the straight edge shows its uneven when laying across all exhaust ports. Haven't checked the head but I will next. Not that that will do me any good.
Thanks,
Gary

Gonna take it to a machine shop tomorrow. Sounds like two is a no-no also. I even had 3 tubes of super glue all ready too
Thanks,
Gary

Don't put ANYTHING on an exhaust gasket!!! Just clean both surfaces real good and install it.

That was real funny! One must remember everyone here does not know what they are doing and might take funny stuff as truth.
I, however, do see the lighter side of your remarks.

Okay, here's the sad part... when I took off the manifold I put a straight edge on it and it appeared warped. Then I put a straight edge on the head and it appeared warped too. Too much of a coincidence for both to be warped so I re-read the above posts and discovered I should clean the surfaces first, then put the straight edge on. Well, after I cleaned them real good they were magically transformed to perfect. Who da thunk it !!!! I still wanted to know why this happened so I started looking closely and found that what I had done was put the gaskets on backwards . They were metal with holes on one side and gasket on the other. I had mistakenly put the metal side out so it was against the manifold so it wasn't able to get a good seal. That in turn blew the gasket material off the metal surface. Thanks to all who helped. Now if I can just fix that clunking sound. That's next.
