there are no buts, soldier.. .get it checked. the history on this is amazingly strong. if... I mean, if...so the alternator output doesn't seem to hold water. ... and it's not creating enough charge either... ...Usually, the start feature on the fuel pump runs the pump about 2 seconds to bring the fuel pressure up to operating pressure and once the engine is running, the fuel pump runs normal.
Remember, it isn't running quite the same, although maybe if one of the fields in the alternator went out. still points to the alternator. all of it. normal operation as explained above -- fp switches to alternator current, which you apparently don't have enough of. any number of poor running symptoms, including AT problems, can be attributed to the alternator. I can take the alternator out and have it tested ... i for one am looking forward to hearing the outcome... hth good luck

Well, it'll probably be tomorrow or sometime next week before I get to it as I'm at work now trying to get a job out. On the flip side, I got my other car running and finally got the A/C charged in it so I now have A/C in a vehicle after about 2 years of doing without.

During the winter, even with 20w50 I get a lower end rattle until the pressure gets built up, then it goes away. Stop using that thick oil in the winter. It is rattling because the oil isn't flowing. Try 5w50 or 5w30 and you should be fine in OK winters.

Oops, I meant summer, not winter. I use 10w30 in the winter.

Nah, I guarentee it's not the alternator belt. Okay, do you decide how the crow is prepared, or do I have any say in it? (no crow smilie? )

I guess I didn't realize the alt. was so low in the chassis, funny thing is, when I looked under the hood, I didn't see anything amiss, funny thing is, it knocked two other belts off their pulleys as well, but didn't break them. I only had one belt still on and that was the power steering pump.
I'm replacing all the belts, they were cogged Gates and were pretty cracked at the cogs. I recall replacing the water pump studs when I got the truck in spring '04, but I don't recall replacing any belts or seeing anything wrong with them.
I had to post, someone down the line will need to search their problem and this will confirm or eliminate it for them as well. I don't eat crow very often, near never, but I can take it if I have to (is there any humble pie to kill the taste? )

Mr. T say, I pity da Fool!
Glad you got it figured out.
Edit #1 You might check once you get it back together, how well your A/C belt adjuster pulley is lined up with the other pulleys. Mine was out of line about 1/4 of an inch which was enough to roll the belts over and throw them periodically. Once I spaced it out that little bit, I haven't had a problem since.

. . .it knocked two other belts off their pulleys as well, but didn't break them. I only had one belt still on and that was the power steering pump.. . . so that means you didn't have a working water pump, either. i guess you didn't keep driving enough to notice any overheating problems. (?) and i guess the same reason yu didn't notice, or miss the a/c. anyway. . .glad you got it fixed. and i'm glad yu went searching for that alt. . . good luck

I'll check the A/C idler spacing.
The A/C doesn't work, so I wouldn't have noticed it. When it popped, I was only about a 1/2 mile from my destination. Now I did notice the radiator bubbling a bit, but the temp wasn't hot. I'll need to make sure I burp the system as well.
