Not sure about your haynes. Mine is located in the middle of the "V" jsut behind the timing belt cover. Manual says to remove the upper hose to remove the cover, I was able to move the cover out of the way enough to remove the temp sensor.

My gauge has been acting up to, pretty sure mine is the actual dashboard gauge and not the sensor, as it will show cold even though the engine has warmed up and dropped the idle down to normal.
