Nothing wrong with a Rav-4. It's an excellent vehicle. But it's just a car. It lacks a lot of things that would keep me from taking it on a real 4wheeling trip. Those thing being mainly, lack of skid plates, (motor and tranny oil pans are right in harms way) no low gear, and the suspension is not very heavy duty. It's basically an AWD Camry.


You cant even call it 4wd really. It's AWD. It has a center diff that, on normal driving conditions, puts all the power to the front wheels. When it detects wheel slippage in the front, it transfers some power to the rear. Unlike a real 4x4 truck where you can lock the front and rear wheels together for true 4wd all the time.
