The grinding is a synchronizer going bad most likely. You can try changing the oil in the tranny, at least check the level, if it's low adding some may help. The gears are always meshed and spinning so grinding gears is a misnomer. Unfortunately, the only way to fix a bad sychro is to completely tear down the tranny, Live with it or get ready for a big hit in the wallet. If adding oil or changing it doesn't help, you could just stop using third gear. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
