My g/f's Tacoma has a squeal at startup and high RPM's. She has a '95 and I have a '97 4Runner, but we both have the same engine, the 2.7 4cyl.

I have found the squeal to be the belt that runs the alternator. Hers is pretty darn loose, where mine is tight against the accessories. On her truck, There is a wing nut that controls how far away the alternator is to the engine, thus controlling the tightness of the belt. The question is, it this long nut the only thing I need to turn? I tried to tighten the nut, but is very rusty and doesn't like to move.

There is a special bolt beneath the long wingnut, but I don't seem to have the proper size attachment for it. How do you tighten this belt? Does this special sized bolt control how the longer wingnut loosens or tightens? If so, how do you loosen it? It is between mm sizes!

Thanks for any replies!
