Getting the Wheeling Fever
Does anyone know where I can find some After Market add ons for a 1986 and 1989 Trooper? I'm looking to make one ready for trail and restore the other one.

darlington is dying though so call b4 you do anything

Darlington 4x4 is not 'dying.'

Joe Darlington is in the military and is preparing to take a well needed rest after being relocated across the country (including moving his whole shop), military deployments, long studies for promotion, etc.

You can call and see if he's still taking last-minute orders. He's having a great "taking a break" sale.

A lot of people don't realize that the military does keep people busy nowadays, and getting deployed (and the threat of getting deployed) while trying to maintain a family life can be a little stressful.

Darlington Offroad Shutting Down

and from his post:

Darlington Offroad will be shutting down for an indefinate period. Due to my Military obligations I need to close the doors and focus on myself and the Air Force for a while. During this time, I will be examining if I will continue to produce Isuzu products, if so, what items I will manufacture and sell. Matt at Independent4x offers many of the items that were offered by Darlington Offroad and he has excellent Customer service. I will be turning off the website on the 21st of this month

Darlington Offroad Shutting Down

you say "take-a-break sale". he says:

get these while they are available because I am not sure when, if ever they will be available again.

sounds like an athlete retiring but also saying never say never, leaving the door open just a crack. let's face it, with no on-going isuzu sales here, what kind of market's going to be available for isuzu stuff if/when he decides to do some more offroad items sometime later on?

anyway, his message is clear: get anything you want that's still available now...or probably not. . .

lol well what is it you want to do?
lift your trooper?
put some new rims and tires? or just tires?
get some more performance?
just look around on indy4x and get some ideas of stuff you might like to do to yours. i look around there often. there seems to be a lot more stuff for the older ones like yours on there than for the newer ones. id say get some manual hubs and new slightly larger tires but it all depends on what your gona do. Lifting is nice but i almost wish i hadnt lifted mine due to the cv's axles increased chance of breaking (STUPID IFS ) but mine are holding up ok

shop around b4 you buy though

That was an interesting set of replies.

I spoke with Joe after his initial postings when inquiring about a part. While he is shutting down the shop, he does hope to keep his business going. He has to retire from the military someday.

As he said (and you quoted above to support that I was wrong) -- it's a break for "...an indefinite period." That's different from "Going out of business forever, selling my tools and shop, ne'er to return."

He also has to consider his base. If Isuzu does not return to the USA, as a businessman he already supports several lines. Support for Isuzu--by any aftermarket business--is going to dwindle to the most sell-able items, and then to none at all. I don't think it's a surprise to say that assuming Joe starts up again, Isuzu support will be limited to the easiest to build, easiest to sell items. If he does not return to Isuzu, that still doesn't mean he won't exist.

During his indefinite break, let's all give him the moral support he needs, and the kind and gentle encouragement to return. While in the military and raising a family, he found time to provide top-notch parts, support, and experience to the Isuzu community for years. He deserves top-notch support in return.

Do not let this distract from your joy of finding fault in my replies.
