I was planning on going 4 link, using a Jeep Cherokee axle, but I like the simplicity of that setup. The arms look downright mean too. Any thoughts on 4 link v/s 2 link (or radius rods, whatever you call it) I can get an XJ with a 3 1/2" lift on it for 500 bucks, and I was thinking about going torch happy and swapping both front and rear axles, and the entire suspension system. Bit of a big project but hopefully cheap.

Are you talking about a full size Cherokee or a 84+ smaller Cherokee? The axles are weaker on the smaller Cherokee than what you have in the rear of your Monty.
I think a radius arm set-up would be much easier than a 4 link, unless you understand suspension geometry. You can find a program on Extreme4X4.com's website for calculating squat, dive, and roll center on a 4 link set-up.

if you want to swap jeep axles you're going to need bigger axles than what that xj has under it. your montero is a lot heavier than that xj, if an xj can snap it's own axles running only 33" tires imigine what your monty will do to those things.

You put a D35, and D30 in your truck, and you're going to have some seriously pissed off axle shafts.
You're wasting your time with anything less than a Dana44 in the front.

I would rather have a nice IFS over the D30.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I would rather have a nice IFS over the D30. I would rather have 2 creepers under the frame of my truck than a Dana 30 with 200 spare axle shafts.

A Dana 30 is about equal to an original 2.6 gearset. Would not be my choice.

Maybe equal in size, not strength.

Maybe equal in size, not strength. Equal in No way. One thing Mitsu IFS is superior to is a D30
