I've had three 2.6L SWBs. I loved the vehicles, but not the engines. I have a 4D59 ITG in OZ which I really like so far. Has anyone done a swap in North America? It should be no real problem to find a 2.6L with a bad engine for cheap. It would be tougher to find the 4D56, but not impossible.

well if you want the 4d56 your best bet is to get a front clip with the wiring and engine goodies shipped from japan and go from there. The only mitsu diesel found in the states is the 4d55 which came in the early mitsu/dodge pickups aswell as some ford rangers which the swap has been done.

I am getting ready to swap the 4d55 into my tired (270k) old 2.6 pickup.

I have a source up here in Canada for parts, I am sure he will ship to the US. I did a 4d55 swap and a changeover to a 5 speed from auto. It was a lot of work. It was fun though.
always working

well i just completed my 2.6 gas to 4d56t transformation it went very well. Import engine cost me 2500 USD off of ebay. It takes about a month to get the motor straight from japan, but when i got it here in new orleans it was plug in play. oh yea it will get about 20mpg and lots of torque
