Those switches are known for going bad. Mine got so hot it melted the switch itself and stuck on hi. I had to unplug the switch from the fan so that it would shut off. When I showed it to the techs at the dealership, one guy said he had one on his desk. They said they replace them all the time, but mine was the worst he'd ever seen.

About $50 from the dealer part # 84732-35030 for a 90 pickup.
