Yeah, it certainly looks like it would fit pretty well, the oilpan does look right - a major problem with a lot of engines going in the Trooper (and other 4x4 platforms).

Here is the outfit I was talking about earlier - click on the 'services' tab to read about some of the transmission adapter options that exist for this engine. It really sounds like a great engine and it's available in North America pretty easily by the sound of that site, although I would hazard that it's not nearly as cheap as the 4JB1-T(C) for our Isuzus.

I may look into the VATN turbo technology in the future - if it can be easily used with mechanical engine controls, there might be a conversion possibility. Again, price is probably the major obstacle.
