no by hand its just around 90*
i got the backlash tightened up a hair, im almost afraid to put it back intho since nothing relly has been changed. But i am goin to and well see.
i know its vague, i am just paranoid having something act up with new gears/locker in there $$$

update
still doing it..
what its doing (to the best of my explaning skills) is when i turn tightly, in gear, the locker clunks. Like it is ratcheting but really harsly. There is no sound when not in gear, or when goign straight (leading me to the locker) Another note: The first sign of trouble was after leaving a rolling turn, the locker clunked once about 75ft or so down the road, ie. 75ft after going straight.
It also seems to be less harsh in reverse, but still present.
when taking off, the driveshaft turns and binds up, like there is something holding the wheels. It binds up so much the diff actually rotates up (as in axlewrap).
-I have cleaned out/adjusted the brakes.
-I have put it on jackstands and ran the wheels, they are straight (axlewise).
-All the suspension parts are tight (there has never been axlewrap before).
-The gears/locker look to be in excellent condition with no excess backlash (roughly 55* free rotation in the driveshaft), pinion has no up-down/in-out play in it.

I did the rear u-joints about 2weeks prior, but they seem to be working properly.

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />I am at my wits end? If it would help i can get a buddy to video tape the binding and post it up.

When you are ~75 ft down the road going straigt and the locker clunks, is this the same time you are shifting gears or anything?

What you are describing going around corners and all seems to be normal I would believe, since when you are not in gear, you are not sending power to your tires to cause the locker to work any.

Thanks,
James

no, i'll go aroudn the corner and once i get going striaght, giving throttle, it will start repeatedly ratcheting. As i go over 60ish km/h it gets really bad (Its getting worse too) This occurs even going perfectly straight under load.
This sucks!

Have your tires worn evenly, or is one of them larger than the other? A little difference in tire size could possibly cause the locker to go haywire when one wheel is spinning faster/slower and causing the locker to lock up. At least thats just a guess.....

if anything its an idea outside the box (assuming its a mechanical problem)

Not saying its the aussie's fault (i love my aussies too), but i'd call em' up and see if they have gotten any other calls on this and see how similar problems were diagnosed and solved....

1. the driveshaft spins a lot before engaging the tires..like a half turn.
2. when it did engage it was harsh and the diff would jump (similar to axlewrap, which i havent had any problems with up to now)

i pulled the diff, gears are all good locker looks to be in good shape with no broken teeth or springs (Aussie locker)
there is movement in the pinion that shouldnt be there.

Any ideas??? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

thanks ina advance

If your driveshaft spins before the tires engage, the first thing you need to check is your backlash...

The Aussie definitely impacted my drivability... does it rachet OK when you're off throttle - or in neutral and turning?

And metal - at all in your axle housing at the bottom?

no metal shavings, tires are even, driveshaft slop is 45degrees as Zuk said it should be. everything seems to be as it should.

well that solves that
after putting in an add-a-leaf in an attempt to curb the axlewrap(till a trac bar is fabbed up)-that i thought may be causing the problem--i took it for a spin last night. It was a lot better but, on the way home it made the jaw barring clunk/stutter/sound from hell..
driveshaft is spinning-wheels not..locker toast.
got AMA? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" />
