Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well since Big Bear is only 2 hrs. away I took my old man out for Labor Day. He has never ever been wheeling. The place was pretty empty for it being a holiday. Since the only difficult trail left to do on the Wells guide was "Heartbreak Ridge" I decided to head there to start the day. The trail is a little bit out of the way between Big Bear Lake and Yucca Valley. This trail is not as scenic as the others but it does have a few things to check out like old mines, and an old camp. Most of the harder stuff on the trail is on a loop that brings you back to the trail. It passes "The Squeeze" and other tuff spots. This part was closed to rehabilitation. I'll have to do this trail again when Justice gets back. By the time I got thru this trail it was about 4:30 p.m. and I needed to start driving back. I decided to do another trail and started it pretty late at 6:00 p.m. I took my old man on "Dishpan Springs" to get him to see some challenges for the Montero. Everytime a rock came he looked at me like, "What are you going to do here?!" I told him that those were small rocks and that until I got out of the vehicle to scout up ahead we hadn't done much. He had a great time, even when we got stuck near the end of the trail with the sun about to go down. Nothing the bottle neck jack and a few rocks cound't take care of. Need to really get that highlift jack. Here are some photos of the Labor Day adventure and also flicks that were promissed from the last trip with Justice. Enjoy fellas.

Here is a spot we pulled over for lunch.

Here is pops checking out some old mines.

Here is a collection of more cheap beers littered on the trails. I picked them all up. Should start a project fund collection from all the cans pick up on the trails.

Getting into "Deep Creek" trail aka "Dishpan Springs".

Pops at the end of the trail. This could also be the start of the trail depending which way you start.

I'm going to post the other photos on another thread so that the photos load up quicker. Or I could post 2 photos a day and keep the suspense up.

Thats cool! I took my pops wheeling his first time last weekend too. He told me he had done a little bit of wheeling in the Lybian desert. And some in Morrocco. Here he is with my daughter atop Saw Mill. [img][image]http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h194/cmontymonty/IMG_4351.jpg[/img][/image] This is what its all about.

Hey Pedro! Lets get a Rubicon trip planned for next year. That trail is my nemesis and must be conquered.
