Need a Spot
Hi. I have a '95 Tacoma, 4x4, 5sp. with the 3rz 2.7L 4 cylinder engine. It has about 140K miles. I have only had it for a few months, and have only had the oil changed once, by the Toyota dealer, in that time.
I have noticed that I've been leaking some oil from underneath the oil drain plug. The oil level has not dropped, and I have been checking it daily for the last few days.
I have noticed that the drain plug seems stripped, or the leak may be coming from the washer not making a good seal.
Before I get ready to change the oil, and replace these parts, I was just wondering if there is anything else I should be looking for.
There seems to be a lot of oil all over the skid plate, and the front axle, which is close to the oil drain.
None of my fluids have been low, with the exception of the clutch fluid, which became empty about a month after I had the truck, during a heat wave. I filled the clutch fluid back up, and it hasn't been a problem since.... or at least, so I think.

My biggest concern is that I feel like I'm leaking enough, that I should be able to notice a drop on the dipstick, but it could be an illusion.?

Thanks.

Your in luck; Toyota changed the oil and therefore are liable for a leaking oil plug, even if it's stripped. Take it back to them.

I did take it to Toyota, because it was just about due for another oil change.
They said that someone, probably the dealer I bought it from, had used silicone to grasp the thread on the plug, because it had been leaking before.
They fixed it right, and didn't charge me anything extra for the fix.
They even gave me the discounted oil change coupon!
