Getting the Wheeling Fever
My 94 amigo 2.6 is having some electrical issues, first all of my dash lights were flashing intermitantly (not often) but I had a fan belt squeeling so I adjusted the alternator belt which stopped the squeel but with in about 15 min both head lights blew out luckly I was close to home and the marker lights still worked, this morning when I went to drive it it started up just fine, but the blower fan would increase speed when the engine rpms would increase and then the radio stopped working all within about 5 mins of driving. My question does this sound like the alternator and or voltage reg. is going out and putting out to many volts, could it be a battery problem?
anyone have this kind of problem in the past?
Thanks Reid

I'd put a volt meter on it and see what you're getting out of it. See what it reads at your battery with the engine off, and with the engine running. Voltage should be around 12.8 volts with the engine off and around 13-14 volts with the engine running.

Boy Richard you hit that one, the voltage with the engine off is 12.8 and running it is 18.1, so now the question is it the alternator, or regulator, are they combined in the same unit, seems like some are, not sure about Isuzu?

Definitely something to do with the regulator. Lucky it didn't fry the ECM!

The regulator is inside the alt so don't know if you can get a regulator by itself and install it. You might be better off getting a rebuilt alt.

Ya, it's a regulator problem. The alternator will put out a substantial amount of voltage, then the regulator steps it down to around 14 volts. The regulator is an internal one on this alternator. You should probably be able to get it seperate, but I'm kinda in agreeance with Ed here. You'd probably be better off just getting a rebuilt alternator. Just make sure that if you do go with a rebuilt unit, that it has been thoroughly taken apart and rebuilt with all around new parts. A lot of places sell rebuilt ones that only replace what went bad, ie brushes, regulator, etc. You'll want to make sure that it's got a new regulator, brushes, bearings.

Does your alternator have the round plug for hooking up the wiring, or the rectangular? If it is round, I have a factory rebuilt by Isuzu alternator cheap.
