If you've got an unlimited budget, sure. I won't argue this is the ideal solution.

However, you can run 32's with stock gearing and not much of a problem. Obvisously, there will be a noticable power loss, but thats to be expected. Cost wise, you wanna be at least 33"+ tire size before regearing becomes cost effective, IMHO. expect to spend over a $2k to regear your truck and add in a full case locker.

What I think your best bet if you're new to this and looking for the most bang for the buck is to confirm you have LSD (which a lot of 2nd gens do) and then go out and spend $300-400 on a lockright/noslip drop in locker. you can install this yourself on a weekend and you're done. no additional costs.

of course, if it turns out you have an open diff, this discussion changes a little.

You could also find a full rear end that has the gear you want and put a drop in locker in it.

I found a 4.77 geared D44 off of an Amigo with disc brakes. I then found a 4.77 third member for the front. I got an Aussie locker for the rear end and I put an ARB in the front.

I'm running 285/75/16's and it's about perfect for the 4.77's.

Installing that Aussie Locker into Joe's 4.77 2nd Gen Amigo axle required the use of a custom-made set of heat-treated spacer shimsà something that isn't readily available to the public (yet / if ever).

Just one other note: This only applies if your second gen rear is an open rear end. If it has the limited slip diff you will be fine a no-slip will drop right in.

Actually, the front 4.77 R&P is part no. 8943160220 is $570, and the rear R&P is part no. 897179931 is $285. So if you are stuck on 4.77s, your best bet may be to order the rear set from St Charles, and get a front third from the junkyard or car-part.com. Don't get the front third member from a 98 amigo if you want to install an arb at some point, it won't fit.

And that's nice to know the gears are still available to just go buy. Problem is I only spent $85 plus shipping for the whole front third, and 300 for the whole rear axle (complete) Already geared with 4.77 both front and rear, so I didn't pay any setup fees.

So for 385, I was good front and rear, granted I picked up my rear so I saved shipping on that one. Just another option to look at.

Alright so if i have a limited slip i will be able to drop a noslip locker in it? If i don't i can make shims that will fit it? I am not in no hurry to regear my truck.It was only an idea to be able to get a locker in it.

I jacked my truck up put it in nuetural and spun the tires. They both spun in the same direction. So i take it i have a limited slip. with this known what are my options on a locker and the install process. Also thank you all im still learning about my truck. It is nice to have so many experts helping me learn.

I went with the ARB rear locker because I drive in snow and ice in the mountains. Auto lockers can be quirky on snow and ice. Just something to consider. ARB's are a lot more expensive, however, and it sounds like you are looking for a cheaper option.
