Is anyone using a 3.0 throttle body and TPS on their 22RE? I have increased size of the valves (thanks EB) and the exhaust and was wondering if a bigger throttle body would be beneficial. Do I also need a different (bigger) MAF sensor (maybe from an older Supra)? I built an adapter to fit a spare 3.0 throttle body onto a 22RE intake plenum. Unfortunately,, I only have older style plenums which tilt down in the front and do not allow enough clearance between the linkage and the fuel rails. Is it worth finding a later 22RE plenum for this project? I would like to know before spending any actual money. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks,
Isaac

You can use a 60mm Supra TB. I am not sure of the year, but probably from the 7M series. Several folks on the 22RTE mailing list have gone this route with good success. This will allow you to use the stock TPS, and I think the linkage is fairly easy to adapt, but I don't know for sure. All things being equal, a bigger TB on a mildly modified normally aspirated motor may be good for 5 peak hp, with other gains across the power band. Do not expect this one mod to make the motor into a rocket ship, but it can help if the TB is restrictive.

The stock AFM is easily good to 160 hp. Swapping this out -- typically to one from a 1982 5MGE Supra, which is plug-and-play -- opens a big can of worms and is not recommended unless you are making an honest 160+ at the rear wheels. Note that ONLY the 1982 Supra AFM is plug-and-play; for all other years, the Supra's AFM signal voltage is the inverse of what the 22RE needs to see.

Oh, and yeah, you if you're going to go to this trouble you should also use a late model plenum, which will improve the air pathway and eliminate the air control valve, which tends to leak with age.
