Getting the Wheeling Fever

Yeah that was going to be my next step. But in my owners manual it says that the trac-lock was a optinal thing. And the only reason this came up is because i going to buy a Aussie locker and they said you have to check first if you have a open diff. , but if it is a old Sure-grip or Trac-lock can i jsut take it out and put in the new locker?
