Gary... Always the first thing to do is to check the instruments! LOW oil pressure from normal wear is rare indeed. In truth all we really need is a light on the dash for oil pressure. The gauge does very little for us, as the pump usually either works full capacity or not at all! If the thing runs normally it is a great bet that the pump is operating normally too. the pump may be operating normally but if the main bearings are worn then it isn't getting the oil pressure that it deserves with the factory pump and an idiot light only goes so far i blew a motor in a vehicle before because the idiot light didn't come on until it was too late and it was running great when it died so ever since i have used a gauge so it will at least warn you of a problem before the light comes on 20 minutes later
