the pump may be operating normally but if the main bearings are worn then it isn't getting the oil pressure that it deserves with the factory pump and an idiot light only goes so far i blew a motor in a vehicle before because the idiot light didn't come on until it was too late and it was running great when it died so ever since i have used a gauge so it will at least warn you of a problem before the light comes on 20 minutes later
