I have a 96 x-cab sr5, maybe the sr5 model has a bigger tank? 98' xtracab here. Most I've filled is 23.8 gals. Do you fill up at first light? I can get an xtra 45 miles or so after it comes on......
I filled up after the light came on for awhile. must have driven another 10 miles with the light totally on.

97 T-100. 3.4, auto, x-cab, bed cover. 19 mpg +- 1. About 70/30 highway and town driving.
Jake, 97's have a 24 gallon tank. Yours probably does and you just didn't realize it. Btdt on some other vehicles. I've put 23 gallons in mine.
That said, Toyota sure was qick to install wrong tanks back in the 80's at least. None of my 86's had the correct sized tank from the factory.

According to the SPEC SHEET, all the '97s should have a 24 gallon tank. And not much changed over the years, so I'd guess they probably all do. IIRC, the owners manual said when the fuel light comes on you still have about 2.5 gallons in the tank (which I'm sure is still very conservative), so I figure I can drive about 60 more miles before I really have to start worrying and I haven't run out yet (wife ran out once though! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> ). I think the most I've put in was a little over 22 gallons.

Ya know after driving it some more I noticed something. I have 31" at tires, thus less mpg. I generally get about 340 miles out of a tank, but the light hasnt come on yet and I drive all local.
The people who get better mpg have the smaller 29" metric sized 265/70/R15 tires.
