I am wanting to get some lockers for the front and rear and wondering which ones you guys would recommend. I got the 10 bolt in the front and the 12 in the rear. I am wanting something a little less expensive like a lockrite or something simial. Also, what do you guys think of a spool, and can you put one in the front aswell. I think there might be problems with it being in the front but not sure. Any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Well I'll say that you only have one choise for the rear locker in a 12 bolt. ARB air lockerat about 800 bucks plus the cost of the compressor and the cost of setting up the gears. Your stipulation of wanting to be cheaper than a lockright isn't going to happen. A lockright is the cheapest locker you can buy. The only other option for the rear is to weld the spider gears. AKA lincoln locker. Most people that don't live in an area that gets much snow say this is a viable option. Tire wear will be an issue. The front is anouther issue. Most people would agree that you don't want anything non-selectable in the front. The reasoning behind this is most people like to turn. With the front locked it's extremely difficult to turn. I'd not want to try and drive much with a spool or the front welded. A different option for the front could be a Limited slip unit from an Impulse. but they are rare. ARB makes an air locker for the front about 800 again but you can use one compressor for both lockers. Joe

i know a lockrite is the cheapest, im not wanting cheaper then that just wondering if there is a lockrite available for the rear. I know there used to be a locker for the front 10 bolt but it has since been discontinued. So you are saying that the only lockers available for my 90 trooper is ARB's?

There is no lockright for the 12 bolt. There were a bunch of people interested in buying, and they were talking to Powertrax about making one, I'm not sure what ever came of it.
I'm running a spooled rear now, and so far I like it better than the lockright it replaced. The lockright was pretty inconsistent about when it was going to lock up. Sometimes going around turns, it would start locking, unlocking, repeat, and it would buck the whole truck around. Pretty annoying. The spool does wear tires a lot faster, so an ARB may be worth it, depending on how much you drive it and what tires you're running.

The cost of the lockright for the 12 bolt rear ended up being pretty steep. Just over 500 shipped if I'm not mistaken. Most people are just not going to pay that for a lockright.

You can weld the rear. Thats what I did. Its not all that bad. But I wouldn't do it to the front though. There is a locker for the front 10 bolt like the lockright, but you'd have to order it from australia. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Sounds like a 10-bolt Aussie locker will be available soon here, they are doing test-installs of prototypes as we speak. Dunno how long it will take to get to market.
