Anyone tried to replace the fuel filter yet? My replacement from NAPA says I have to use the manual pump - my Dodge has one. Anyone found it on a 4D56? Other tips on this job?

I remember a great post on POCUK about this with pics. Try a search over there if nobody here can answer.

are you looking for the location of the manual pump or how to bleed the system?

I found an article on the procedure on pocuk - thanks for the idea. I am looking, still, for the manual pump if it exists - the bleeding directions (no pun intended) were clear from the pocuk article.

on mine, 91 exceed, if you move the intercooler out of the way and look at the top of the fuel filter unit. A white plastic bolt/knob should be on the left hand side. That is the manual pump. it unscrews and works like a plunger when the air or water bleed is opened. hope this helps

Did the job today - I have no mechanical experience and it took me just under 1 hour, had to remove one of the batteries to get at the filter. I think I may have overtightened the thingies that hold the fuel lines onto the other thingy that the filter screws onto... Truck started immediately after with no apparent adverse effects of the process.
OT - put a Clarion deck in yesterday, too!

I know on the big trucks we tighten them hand tight, then 1/4 turn for snugness. I also prime my filters to 3/4 full before installing them. This saves a lot of time under the pump when the filters hold 2 litres of fuel.
always working

Did my filter last weekend also. Where'd you get yours, Neo? Mine was a crappy tire item. I pulled the intercooler instead of the battery. Not sure which would give better access, but maybe next time I'll try the batt, and see?

Got mine from NAPA - about $39. Access was fine just pulling the battery - I wanted them disconnected anyway before I started spilling fuel.
