Wally world and samy's have pretty good deals as does fleet-n-farm on there off name tires and they are usually manufactured by one of the big tyre build ups anywho. Have had many sets in the past of the sears also and they have worked well. I usually looked toward one of these vendors as they run some pretty darn good deals and sometimes offer the roadhazord pkg for a bonus savings. Which ever way, I've learned to go with the roadhazard pkg, it saves allot of money and bother here in WI. Winters are brutal on tyres in this neck of the woods.

in my experience, goodyear tires are junk...even for street tires they just don't stand up at all - i have gotten more flats with the RT-S, GS-A than i think is normal or safe, haha...goodyear - not a good tire with the flimsiest sidewalls ever, meaning you'd get a flat if you ran over a thumbtack

same with bf goodrich - you're paying that extra money for the name

i'm running mickey thompson baja claw radials on my jeep right now and they're one of the loudest tires i've ever heard in my life but you can't beat a directional tire in the mud (i've yet to get stuck with these bad boys)

I agree with the guys on this thread - everybody i know who ran ATs because of the price just wanted a more aggressive looking street tire...which usually caked with mud and turned into slicks when off-road...no self-cleaning power at all cuz the treads are too close together

Interco makes a decent tire called "TrXus" which a few guys i wheel with use and they love it. but then again, it's made by the same people who brought the bogger for all the crazies on this forum who don't know when to quit -- "All i need is 20 more horsepower and i can drive my CJ 7 up that telephone pole!" haha

my advice - you'll probably have to sacrifice road noise for functionality when you're off the pavement -- meaning a mud tire

Speaking of Mud Tires. Myself and at least two others in our club use Bridgestone Dueler MT's and we all love em. They hold up very well on the Hwy. and for a mud Terrain tire they are not very noisy. None of us knew the others had them when we bought them but we all agree it's the best offroad/onroad tire we ever had on a Jeep.

geetman easy there bud i work for goodyear and im very very loyal . i have gsa's on my jeep and have yet to get a flat from a nail.i just fixed a flat but it was due to corrosion on the lumy rims and a bad valve,so i went ahead and done all 4.with that being ranger you stated that you just want a mild off road tire that you can use on road,in snow and such well here is your answer Goodyear Wrangler with silent armour. they are excellant on/off road tires that perform great in snow, rain, mud and quit on the highway. here is some info on them.
goodyear wrangler

50,000 Mile/80,000 Kilometer Tread Life Limited Warranty**
30-Day No Obligation Trial Period***
Nationwide Warranty Service
Off-Road Assistance Program
Online D.O.T. Registration
NEW Goodyear GarageÖ Program
now if you can find ANY truck tire with all those options by all means check them out as well. sure these goodyears will be expensive but look at what you are getting.
guys you have to remember he is wanting a tire for mild offroad use not something he car run in the mud halfway up his doors. Bj and a few others mentioned good tires as well. but dont get mixed up with the severe off rod tires like the micky thompsons, swampers and such.they all do very poorly on the road. i have heard good things about the yokohamas, and michelins though.
as for the tire size stick with the size you have

Pete them is the same tire as the Firestones I use.. just a different name printed on them.
For mud, gravel hills and thorns..thorns..thorns.. I cannot find a better tire. The extra sidewall and tread plies make this the top of the mud tires..my opinion anyway.
I'd like them to be directional, but I guess that is a bit too much to ask.

pete and BJ firestone is now owned by bridgestone(learned that when i use to work for them) It is no secret that i despise them but hey if you like them that is all that matters.personally nothing would make me happier than to see that company fold, mainly due to the way they treat the employees, and drive the cost of parts way up.i have also seen things with their car tires that was suspicious but their truck tires all seemed to be ok. that is just my oppinion , dont want to ruffle any feathers.

Goodyear has had their share of quality control problems, deaths, lawsuits, etc. Cooper, Dunlop, Firestone/Bridgestone, General, Michelin, Good rich, and Uniroyal, like Goodyear, have all had recalls in recent years due to tread separation/safety isues. Most of those "extras" you mention are available with any decent tire for a fee. I encourage Rangermaniac to go to Tirerack.com and compare tires of differing brands and read user reviews.

I don't speak as a salesman, or due to brand loyalty I speak from mine and others experience with these tires on Jeeps on and off road. He wants a tire good for mild off roading, rain, and snow on the road. Though I have no experience driving in snow, I suspect there are certain similarities to driving in mud or on very slick clay which I do have experience with.

Do any companies still provide basic jeep styled tyres, say like the ones seen on MASH. Just plain old fashion heavy duty tyres with out all the flare?

It took me about ten seconds to find one online. http://www.surplusjeep.com/trspaint.htm

I'm sure there are more. Use Google.

Well, I understand brand loyalty especially when that brand pays the bills but all of those nationwide coverage plans and insurance and extra warrantees for products (i.e. tires) that HAVE to wear out through use and time are silly... goodyear tires are great when they're new (under 5,000 miles on them) but any time after that, my experience says it's hit or miss

those goodyear silentarmor tires have two steel belts and a layer of kevlar so i don't doubt they're a tough piece of rubber. there's still no real sidewall protection tho and thats where my goodyears have always failed me, i dunno, i just have a bitter taste in my mouth about goodyears...

don't get me wrong, they're great highway tires and they last forever when you use them for highway driving but i think the sidewalls just aren't there for off pavement.

Oh well - Rangermaniac is buying the tires, not us, haha - to each his own
