I did'nt mean for myself, I meant may be the original poster would like to know there are these tyres as an option also. Yet I do feel that the older Jeep style tyres lasted a long time. I still have a pair of old tyres like that from a 58 Belaire in my parents garage and those tyres are still in fair shape. Were well made and tuff as nails. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" />

With 3:83 gears, I would guess 33" tires would be just about right. As far as lifting your ranger, I don't have a clue on that one.

Jim, you drive a Ranger now don't you?

Yeah I got one.. It has a 4:11 gear and a 5 speed. It came with 32X10.50's on it and it does not run anything like that many rpm at 60.
I doubt the gear he has is 3:83...perhaps a 3:73? But with that ratio it does not make sense to run that many r's at that speed.
SOMETHING is incorrect here... he needs to get a 25% decrease in rpm.. can he do that with tires?
I'm thinking the previous owner put 4:88 gears in the thing and he has not turned the axels to SEE just what is in there.

Looking to get a decent tire for my 91 ranger i know this is a jeep forum but the all the ranger forums suck and you guys are fun to talk to and you know your stuff (i also have a 96 cherokee) so i am looking for tires that are good for minor off roading so i can go to my hunting spots in the woods yet good on the road i live in Pa. so they also have to be good in snow (not much highway driving) currently running BF Goodrich A/T 31" 10.50" i like them but not good in rain

being that I have wheeled in probably at least half the states and actually hail from Pennsylvania (Southwest, I belive I would be qualified enough to answer this question. Bottom line, you can't do what you want to do with just one tire. A/T's are excellent out here on the slickrock of Utah as well as the snowy/icey roads of SWPA, but the suck at channeling water out and I know that SWPA is actually one of the wettest areas in the US (little unknown fact), and when it rains it really rains. They as well are horrible at spittign out that clay packed mud that you'll find there.
Mud terrians with very wide voids (wider than the BFG or MT/R are excellent in the mud, but are downright dangerous on the roads in SWPA, not to mention they sound like a C-130 coming down the highway.
Street tires isn't going to get you 10 feet off road in the Allegheny's are the Apps.
So my suggestion would be stick with a street tire for the street, pick yourself up some used swampers for off-road. Heck even out here where we get rain maybe 12 times a year and half as many days of snow in the valley, I still run two sets.

Mine is an 02 with 4.0 and 5 speed. Look on the drivers door for the sticker that says what came in it from the factory. There is a code for it.. put the code in here and I will tell you what came from the factory..
If it is a USED vehicle you must jack it up and turn the wheel and watch the driveshaft to ascertain zackly what the gears presently installed are. Guessing just does not cut it.
Here are the codes for Rangers:

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I had the best luck of all on Goodyear's. I don't agree at all that the side walls are bad. I'd bet they were run on too low of pressure. I just bought a new set of the Silent Armour for my Rubicon. I'll bet I will get a couple of MPG more than the MT/R and be better on ice. The type of tread really depends on your main driving. I need and ice and snow tire that can go off road. Also, I don't think you can go much more than a 31" tire on a Ranger with those gears.

Sorry about that but I was mistaken about the tire size on my Ranger FX-4.. It has 31X10.50-15's on it.. They have nearly new tread.. I drove it over a hunnert miles this morning.. I set the cruise in 5th gear at 60 mph just to see how many r's it would turn at that speed.. It turns 2200 or maybe 2180 at a steady 60mph.. and it does for absolute certain have a 4:11 rear end in it!
